The annual scarecrow festival returns to Tickhill on 11th & 12th May, when residents and business owners create scarecrow displays around the town. This is a fun event for all the family to get involved, walk around the town and find the scarecrows, take photos and vote for your favourite (voting forms will be available from the Scout HQ on St Marys Road on Saturday 11th).

 Beacon Lighting

Thursday 6th June 2024 9:15pm

As part of the official D-Day 80 International commemoration, we will be lighting the beacon on Tickhill Buttercross at 9:15pm.

This event is not a celebration, but a commemoration of those who lost their lives 80 years ago in the D-Day landings at Normandy.

Durign the lighting of the beacon, the International Tribute will be read during which time, we would ask for a moments silent reflection. Following this The last post will be played by Matthew Colley then we would ask you to join us in singing two versus of The National Anthem. For those not familiar with both versus, the words are below...

God save our Gracious King, Long live our noble King! God save the King! Send him victorious, happy and glorious, long to reign over us, God save the King.

Thy choicest gifts in store, on him be blessed to pour, long may he reign. May he defend our laws, and ever give us cause, to sing with heart and voice. God save the King.

Christmas 2023

Best Dressed Window Competition!

We will be running our Best Dressed Window competition once again this year. Judging will take place on 30th November and the winner announced on 30th November during the Christmas light switch on.

We have not chosen a theme, other than 'Christmas' as businesses have told us they prefer to use their creative skills freely.

An independent judge will be scoring every window that has a Christmas display, starting at Buttercross Court and working their way down Market Place, Castle Gate and Sunderland Street.

There is no need to register your interest, however if your business is outside of this area and you want to make sure we dont miss you, please email communications@tickhilltowncouncil.co.uk.

Christmas Light Switch On!

Once again we are holding our annual Christmas light switch on in conjunction with the Tickhill Together Late Night Shopping event. We will be asking a group of local children to count us down to the big light switch on so we hope you will help us by counting with them.

For the safety of the children, we would kindly ask members of the public not to step onto the Buttercross but remain on the pavements on Sunderland Street and Market Place.

We expect this to be a very busy night so please take care as the pavements will be very busy.

 Carols Around the Buttercross!

We would like you all to join us and the Salvation Army Band on Christmas Eve for the traditional Carols Around the Buttercross.

As always Market Place and Sunderland Street will be closed for public safety between 6:45pm and 7:45pm.

Marshalls will be on hand, along with members of the council and volunteers who will be handing out carol sheets, but to help us save trees, if you already have one from previous years tucked at the back of a drawer please bring it along with you as we will be using the same sheets.
